Department of Anatomy, Histology and Cytology

Department of Anatomy, Histology and Cytology is the basic and biggest pre-clinical Department of Medical University - Pleven. It was found in 1975, when the teaching of macroscopic and microscopic anatomy was merged. The department has developed laboratories for histology, histochemistry, autoradiography and electron microscopy.

The department has a museum of macroscopic preparations, models, educational films, slides, panels lectures and seminars. The main scientific directions of the department are studying embryonic development of sensory systems and innovation in education of anatomy. Teaching students is conducted in English and Bulgarian language, combines classical dissection techniques with modern knowledge about the structural organization of the organs and systems. Exports are optional lecture course in topographic anatomy. Some students are included in the integrated program of problem-based learning together with the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry. The department organizes clinical anatomical courses, trainee doctors and specialists on selected topics. The department has made guidelines for the practical exercises in Bulgarian and English.

The teaching staff of the department includes 1assosiate professor, 7 chief assistant professors, 1 assistant professor and one part-time teacher. Teaching includes students majoring in medicine, occupational therapy and colleges. The department prepares students for two subjects - Cytology, Histology and Embryology general and macro-and microscopic anatomy.
