The publication presents an innovative clinical case—a robotic surgery on a patient with rectal cancer and a rare anatomical feature, performed in Pleven by Associate Professor Dr. Martin Karamanliev and the team from the Oncology Surgery Clinic. At the same time, the Rector of the Medical University of Pleven, Professor Dr. Dobromir Dimitrov, MD, who was on a working visit in China, provided expert support in real time via the Proximie platform and 5G internet.
This achievement is a powerful example of how medicine is moving beyond borders—when experience, knowledge, and technology come together, distance no longer matters.
“When technology meets well-prepared people and bold ideas, boundaries disappear,” emphasized Rector Professor Dr. Dobromir Dimitrov.
The success is the result of international collaboration between specialists from Bulgaria, China, and the United States, and it strengthens the university’s position in the development of digital healthcare and robotic surgery.
