On February 12, 2026, during the official opening of the Level 2 Operative Hysteroscopy course led by Corresp. Memb. Prof. Dr. Slavcho Tomov, the Medical University of Pleven awarded the title of "Honorary Professor of MU-Pleven" to Dr. Giuseppe Bigatti (Italy)—a leading European specialist in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery.
The distinction was presented by Prof. Dr. Mariela Kamburova, Vice-Rector for Research, in recognition of his significant scientific and innovative contributions, his international teaching activities, and his role in establishing modern minimally invasive methods for treating intrauterine pathology.
Dr. Bigatti is the creator of the Intrauterine Bigatti Shaver (IBS®)—an innovative system for the mechanical removal of intrauterine lesions that increases the safety and efficiency of the procedure. He heads the Hysteroscopy Center at Renji Hospital in Shanghai and serves as a trainer for the European Academy of Gynaecological Surgery.
Following the ceremony, Dr. Giuseppe Bigatti delivered an academic lecture titled “A Revolutionary Intuition: History of The BIGATTI Shaver,” detailing the development of his concept from its initial idea to its global recognition.
